Another Year, A Lot Of Lessons! Here's What I've Learned In This New Year Of Life

Aren't birthdays grand?

If you don't know me well, you might not catch the air of sarcasm at the beginning of this post. I'm not too big on birthdays because, for me, birthdays are a celebration of aging, and aging really freaks me out.

This new calendar year, and new year in life, has taught me quite a lot — which is wild because it's only February. Check out the lessons I've learned below.

Value Yourself

This lesson seems a little obvious, still, many of us (me included) forget to do it. Giving yourself value can apply to any aspect of your life be it romantic, work-related, in friendships, or otherwise.

If you're working someplace where your talent is taken for granted, find a new job where you'll feel you'll have better treatment.

If the person you're with isn't treating you like the king or queen you actually are, let them know you're unhappy. If things still don't change, move on to someone you feel will treat you better or spend some time in a relationship with yourself.

If your friends only reach out when they need something, CUT THEM OFF! You should surround yourself with people who love you and want to be around you unconditionally, anything else is trash!

Don't Give Up On Your Dreams

I may not be too keen on the idea of aging but the older I get, the more comfortable I am with who I am. This also means that IDC how old I am, I'm going to strive, work, and get sh*t done until I make ALL of my dreams come true.

Don't give up on your dreams folks! There will always be naysayers and negative Nacy's trying to stop you, ignore their asses. You can achieve anything you put your mind to, and it is never too late.

Saying 'No' Is An Integral Part Of Self-Care

You don't have to attend every event! You best friend's, brother's, cousin's, neighbor will be fine if you miss their BBQ. If you need to decompress or just want to binge-watch whatever new show is on Netflix, then do that! Caring a lot about other people is very fulfilling, but if we forget about ourselves for too long, our bodies will retaliate.

Remember: self-care is self-love!

Always Show/Tell Your Loved Ones You Care

Life is crazy and we let it get in the way of personal connections we have with friends and family. Don't get so caught up with work and hustling, that you forget about the people you love because you might miss out on some great moments.
